ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Sufian, and welcome to my solo, private counselling practice, Concise Therapy & Counselling.

I've been providing counselling services for 16 years and counting, notably in institutions such as Lewisham CAMHS (UK), IMH Mood Disorders Unit and the Family Therapy Institute. I trained in Social Work at NUS and started practising counselling immediately after graduation. I then embarked on further graduate training in Family Therapy at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, before obtaining a Master of Counselling at Monash University.

I'm a member of both the Association of Psychotherapist and Counsellors Singapore (APACS, Reg. No. A0393) and the Singapore Association of Counsellors (SAC, Reg. No. D0747), and I'm accredited by the Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW, Reg. No. 0783).

Here is a list of contexts where I have provided counselling services over the years, either as a student or as a qualified practitioner:

  • probation services

  • court-mandated marital counselling

  • family service centres

  • stepfamily specialist services

  • children and adolescent mental health services

  • psychiatric hospital

  • family therapy and counselling centres

  • community mental health services

  • general hospital

  • community health services

These experiences have provided me with valuable insights into supporting individuals, groups and families from different cultures with a diverse range of relational, social, emotional, mental health and general health issues - most commonly adjustment issues, low mood, anxiety and relationship issues.

Clients that I have worked with have spanned the different stages of life - from adolescents, young adults, couples, young parents to the elderly.

I adopt an integrative approach to therapy that pulls together all these experiences of working with clients and multi-disciplinary professionals in different contexts. I strongly believe in a balanced approach to therapy, balancing clinical intuition, being research-informed and most importantly, what fits and works for my clients' circumstances.

I also actively supervise and teach in counselling, and speak at the occasional seminar or conference.

Experience tells me that your time and your issue is of the essence, especially in busy Singapore.

Therefore, it is important to understand what makes counselling work - such as ethical practice, the therapeutic relationship and microskills - and to focus on those key ingredients.

Inspired by the rise of the gig economy, my practice is deliberately kept mobile and minimizes non-essentials in order to keep costs competitive.

As much as possible, clinical intervention is guided by the Single-Session Therapy approach, meaning that your therapy will be brief and not last longer than what is necessary for your issue and comfort level.

With these themes in mind, I have thus named my practice as Concise!

If these ideas appeal to you, let's get in touch through Concise to explore counselling and psychotherapy with me!
